In early 2015 Independent Asbestos was approached by a development management company on behalf of the owners of the Foyles bookshop site on Charing Cross Rd, where part of the building was to be redeveloped ready for occupancy by a new tenant.

Our remit was to carry out a fully intrusive Refurbishment Survey of a vacant area of the building occupying the basement, ground floor and six upper floors and then to undertake the removal of any identified asbestos that would enable the affected areas to then be remodeled as required by the incoming tenant.

Our survey indicated the presence of both licensable and non-licensable asbestos products, most of which we removed under controlled conditions to a tight programme before the new tenants took possession of the areas. The remaining licensable items that were subject to statutory notification prior to commencement were removed over a bank holiday weekend by prior arrangement with the new occupants.

Our relationship with the management company has successfully continued and we are currently involved in the phased asbestos survey and removal works that form part of the redevelopment of the Walkers Court site incorporating the Raymond Revuebar.
